Heating fuel comparison

Useful heat is the figure you enter. Boiler fuels are divided by calorific value and by boiler efficiency. Resistance heat is 1 kWh in, 1 kWh out. A heat pump divides by SCOP. Default calorific values: gas 10 kWh/m³, pellet 4.8 kWh/kg, coal 7, wood 4, oil 10 kWh/L. Prices are yours. Chimney, delivery and capital cost are not in the running figure.

Annual heat demand for space heating — often 15,000–25,000 kWh for a detached house.

Average heat-pump SCOP over the heating season — often 3–4; direct electric heat is effectively 1.

4,629 zł · 5,143 kWh
Pellet
5,000 zł · 4,167 kg

6,400 zł · 2,000 m³
Heating oil
13,000 zł · 2,000 L

The cheapest row is only the fuel bill at the prices you typed. A leaky house, wet wood or a low SCOP in January can invert the ranking.
